Scissortail Creative Writing Festival in Oklahoma!

March 30, 2009

scissortail1 For a state that gave America the Wobblies, [and now votes strictly for the high finance Republican crowd in national elections] Oklahoma is a state of many contradictions. It’s also a state that gave America Will Rogers, Wiley Post, Pearl Carter Scott,Te Ata, Ben Dwight, John Hope Franklin, N. Scott Momaday, Craig Womack, D.L. Birchfield, Quraysh Ali Lansana, Dean Rader, Santee Frazier, and of all things, Parking Meters.

This week I’m delighted to say I’ll be home again in Ada, Oklahoma where authors, orators and activists are gathering to celebrate creative writing at the Scissortail Creative Writing Festival on the campus of East Central University. Beginning on April 2, this year’s festival features the work of, Elmer Kelton, Rilla Askew, and me. If you’re in Ada, Oklahoma, Friday, April 3 at 7 p.m. I’ll be reading from Miko Kings: An Indian Baseball Story at the Estep Center on ECU’s campus. My novel is set in Ada about 1907 and 2006.

And if you don’t know the people and organizations I’ve mentioned, look them up! They are all quite impressive writers, thinkers.
